Statement of Faith
The Bible
The Holy Bible is God’s Word – the inspired, infallible, and authoritative source of Christian doctrine and practice. It contains the complete revelation of God’s will for the salvation of men. (2 Timothy 3:15-17; 2 Peter 1:19-21)
God
There is one God who is infinitely perfect and eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. (Genesis 1:26; Deuteronomy 6:4; Matthew 3:16-17; Matthew 5:48; Matthew 28:19)
Man
Man was created in the image of God, but as the result of sin is lost and powerless to save himself. All men are born with a sinful nature, are separated from God, and can be saved only through the atoning work of the Lord Jesus Christ. (Genesis 1:26-27; Genesis 2:7-3:19; Romans 3:23; Romans 5:12-21; Romans 6:23; 1 Corinthians 15:20–23
Jesus and Salvation
Jesus is the true God and the true man. He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and was born of the virgin Mary. He died on the cross, the Just for the unjust, as a substitutionary sacrifice, and all who believe in Him are justified on the ground of His shed blood. He rose from the dead according to the Scriptures. He is now at the right hand of Majesty on high as our great High Priest. He will come again to establish His kingdom, righteousness and peace. The only hope for man is to believe in Jesus Christ, who died to take upon Himself the punishment for the sin of mankind. It is by receiving Him as Lord that man is made spiritually alive. This begins a relationship with the living Savior, Jesus. (Philippians 2:6-11; Luke 1:34–38; Peter 3:18; Hebrews 2:9; Romans 5:9; Acts 2:23–24; Hebrews 8:1; Matthew 26:64; John 1:12; John 3:3-7; John 5:24; Ephesians 2:8-10; Hebrews 9:11-28)
Eternity
We believe in the bodily resurrection of the saved and the lost, the eternal conscious existence of all men, either in heaven or hell, and in divine judgments, rewards and punishments. We believe also that Jesus Christ will return in person to earth in power and glory. (John 5:29; Acts 1:11; 1 Corinthians 3:11-15; 1 Corinthians 15:51-58; 2 Corinthians 5:6-10; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18; 2 John 8; Revelation 19-20)
Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit is a divine person sent to dwell with, guide, and teach believers. He enables believers to live righteous and godly lives and He convinces the world of sin, of righteousness, and of judgment. The gifts and fruit of the Spirit are part of God’s plan for His Church. It is God’s will that each believer be filled with the Holy Spirit. (John 14:15–18; John 16:7-13, Acts 1:8Galatians 3:2; Galatians 5:22; Romans 8:5-9; Romans 12:6-8; 1 Corinthians 12:4-11; Ephesians 4:7-12; Ephesians 5:18)
The Church
The Church is the body of Christ and is composed of those who, through belief in Christ, have been spiritually regenerated by the indwelling Holy Spirit. Jesus Christ is the head of the body. The mission of the Church is to nurture and disciple Christians and to preach to good news of salvation. The local church is a part of the greater body, regularly assembled together to worship, pray, encourage, teach, proclaim the gospel and to observe the ordinances of Baptism and the Lord’s Supper. (Ephesians 1:22–23Matthew 28:18-20; Matthew 26:26-30; Matthew 28:18-20; Mark 16:15; Romans 6:3-4; Acts 2:41–47)
